Contents

Most happy customers are glad to leave a review. They just don't think of it, or they don't know where to go. Getting more reviews is less about persuading people and more about making it easy, at the right moment.

Key takeaways
  • Ask soon after a job you're proud of, while the customer is happiest.
  • Send a direct link so leaving a review takes seconds.
  • Reply to every review, good or bad, and never fake or buy them.

Why reviews matter

When customers compare local businesses on Google, star ratings and recent reviews are often what they look at first. Recent reviews also show that your business is active. A profile where the newest review is two years old can make customers wonder if you're still trading.

a recent review, with a friendly reply from the owner.

The simple system

1
Ask at the right momentThe best time is right after a job goes well: when you've finished, the customer's happy and the result is in front of them.
2
Make it one tapSend your Google review link by text or email so they don't have to search for you. You'll find it in your Google Business Profile under "Ask for reviews".
3
Keep the message short and personalFor example: "Thanks again for having us today, Sarah. If you were happy with the job, a quick Google review would really help a small local business like ours: [link]"
4
Reply to every reviewThank people by name. If a review is negative, reply politely and offer to sort it out. Future customers will read your reply.
i
Ask everyone you're proud of, not just the happiest

Asking only your happiest customers can look like you're filtering reviews. Ask after any job you're proud of, and let customers say what they think.

What not to do

!
These can backfire

• Don't offer discounts or gifts in exchange for reviews. It's against Google's rules. • Don't post fake reviews or ask friends and family to pose as customers. Fake reviews can break Australian consumer law. • Don't ask for lots of reviews all at once from people who haven't used you recently.

Make it automatic

The hardest part is remembering to ask. In every Reactive Web dashboard, when you mark a job as Won, you can tap Request a review and the customer gets one friendly email with a button straight to your Google review page. Each customer is only ever asked once, so you never double up.

Mark the job won, then tap "Request a review".
